I don’t care that Michigan is drunk and it’s still in the mid-80’s outside. It’s September. It’s Fall. My family will happily go to the orchard with me to pick apples.Read More

Few places were as well known as the house he was living at, at the time. It became pretty apparent to me why, from the moment I set foot inside. Instead of the normal feeling of carpet or hardwood in the living room, the floor was a sea of old fast food bags that crumpled beneath my feet wafting up the smell of old grease as I made my way over to the couch that looked like it had definitely been puked on before. Chris made his way to the kitchen to grab food for us. In the dining room was a half assembled motorcycle, with skids of tire rubber marking up the floor around it and pools of oil scattered across the hardwood. A large tank with a mesh lid and a light sat in the corner of the archway between the two rooms.Read More
If squinch my eyes to distort the faces in that photo, I think “That’s a rad fucking photo,” but you know what I did when I first saw it pop up on the screen in Lightroom?
I googled, “How to look better with no make-up.”
I wish I hadn’t. I wish I could tell you that it’s because I want to save the earth from more unnecessary plastic containers or that I care about my skin so much i don’t wear make-up. Really though?
I just don’t have time to put make-up on. Because I’m a Mom.Read More
I know, I know. More animals. But these ones won’t be with us for a long time, they will all be up for adoption in about 8 weeks, if everything goes well. But before I get ahead of myself, let’s start at the beginning.Read More
Normally, for beach days, we would go to Lake Michigan. It’s big, beautiful, and impressive. But it’s a long drive for us, so I figured we could try out our little tiny local lake. I was prepared for it to suck, to be honest. What could possibly out-do Lake Michigan?Read More
Where did the time go?! This year seems to have moved much faster than years past. It feels like we were just chilling on the couch with a tiny ball of pudge that is Eleni. Alas, now she runs around in her diaper and open hand smacks anything that moves while eating cheese off the floor with her besties, the cats. So here’s a profile of Eleni this year…Read More
When I made the poor decision to attend art school in a city larger than my small town, rural farm community, I was on top of the fucking world. All I will say about this time period is this: my poor roommates. Between the parties with cheap liquor, crazy shenanigans, like stealing all the phonebooks and super gluing things to the sidewalks, I went as crazy as an angsty girl from a small town-moved city could. I hung around with people who were copies of my friends from home with different names and faces, attended the same sort of shows, and dated a lot of assholes. Then one-day, things changed.Read More
Chris and I have a wild story of how ‘we’ came to be. It started years before we got married and we’ve been building on it ever since. I thought about maybe compiling it all in a book, but I am really impatient. So I’m going to post ‘chapters’ or short stories of important moments twice a month. I don’t know where it will go, or where I’ll call the end, but the beginning is a pretty great thing to look back on.Read More
On one of our family car rides one Sunday, an ad came across the radio about Harry Potter night at a Lansing Lugnuts game…* FIRST 1,000 FANS THROUGH THE DOOR GET A LUGNUTS QUIDDITCH JERSEY! *. Ana instantly knew where she wanted to go next weekend, especially for that jersey.Read More
Who else is trying to soak up that last bit of summer? We can feel the summer turning to fall in the morning when we step outside to let Eloise out to pee. It’s colder and crisper, without the sticky feeling summer carries with it. Summer for us is spending copious amounts of time outside in the green, before it all turns. What better way to do that than pick local blueberries, take a nature walk, and get ice cream?Read More

Everyone is crying and yelling. I forgot to cut the baby’s nails so she’s scratching my chest as I try to rock her to sleep. The cats chased each other and knocked over my plant (Ana screaming “IT’S NOT YOUR PLANT, IT’S MINE!”) and now there’s potting soil on the carpet as well as blueberries, popcorn, last night’s rice, and popsicle sticks because someone has a crisis before I can pick up the last mess.Read More

When I was a kid, the chorus of summer was a mix of “CLOSE THE DOOR!” and “TURN THE HOSE OFF!” because my parents were tired of paying to cool the outside and having ponds next to the foundation of the house. Needless to say, there was some peeing in bushes and drinking from the hose, both of which our neighbors probably scoffed at, but it makes for good stories later on. So when I found these water bottles, it jogged my memory, and I passed the torch, er…hose I mean, to Ana.Read More
Summer is here! We’ve been spending almost all day, every day outside. Mostly in the dirt. We’ve been tearing up the yard, planting all the things, and catching all the toads.Read More
