If you’ve seen my Instagram, you know that I now have a very unique gallery on my wall in my front entryway. How did I get to that point? This is the painting that spawned it all. Ana had painted a portrait of me, and I asked if she would also do one of Chris. And she did.
Then she added tiny man nipples and laughed hysterically.
And then she added boob’s.
Then “I AM A BOOBIE” at the top.
And we were rolling in the grass laughing so hard about Chris with boobies, that Ana peed her pants and knew she wanted to paint “funny things.” Hence my butt gallery. She brought so much joy into that day through her goofiness, of course I celebrated her unique visions.
Having two kids has taught me a lot I thought I already knew, since I was one of four siblings, about individuality. My two kids are NOTHING like each other. And I see their differences and can’t help but celebrate who they were inherently created to be. Ana has loved making people laugh since being a year old. She’s brought bubbling, uncontrollable joy to all of our lives every single day, since she was born.
I’m not saying Eleni doesn’t bring joy, but she does it differently. I watch her walk with a purpose to do every single thing. Whether it’s to smack something off the table, or grab a roll of yarn. Her brash, bold, deliberate attitude makes me laugh too. But the differences in them touch two different types of joy for me and I love it.
And when they put their personalities together? You’d swear they caught the sun. The force of joy and confidence they create is something that couldn’t be hidden if I tried. They turn heads everywhere they go. Though they are little, they are fierce.
My job in all of this? Preserve it. Channel it. Teach them how to use it for good, to make the world a better, brighter place. I couldn’t be more honored to not only witness, but partake in it.
